Experiential marketing that moved the needle.
A GameDay style student event that grew student attendance 79.8% for Samford University Athletics.

Overview
Turning a single game into a campus tradition
Samford University Athletics needed to drive student attendance for one of its most important football home games. The solution wasn’t another poster campaign. It was an experience students wanted to be part of. Leading experiential marketing for the game, we designed and executed a student led hype event in the style of College GameDay that transformed how Samford approached fan engagement and delivered measurable results that caught the attention of campus leadership.

Challenge
Moving students from scrolling past to showing up
Standard athletics marketing wasn’t moving the needle on student attendance. The challenge was clear: create momentum, tradition, and genuine support across campus in the week leading up to kickoff. This wasn’t about better messaging. It was about building an experience that made attending the game feel like the obvious move, not the ask.
Project plan
Building a tradition students own, not a department promo
The strategy shifted from “come to the game” messaging to storytelling built around the experience. We designed an event modeled after College GameDay, the signature pregame show, but positioned it as owned by students. The approach treated attendance as a funnel: awareness through the hype event, engagement through social sharing and peer participation, and conversion on game day. The focus was on building something repeatable, not a single promotion.

Execution
From concept to kickoff in one week
We coordinated with athletics, student organizations, and campus leadership to align messaging and logistics. The event integrated music, campus personalities, interactive elements, and moments designed for social sharing to drive organic participation. Promotional assets and timelines sustained excitement across multiple days rather than a single push. Peer promotion and visibility in person created social proof and FOMO that traditional marketing couldn’t manufacture.

Results
79.8% increase in student attendance
The campaign delivered a 79.8% increase in student attendance compared to baseline, proving that experiential marketing changes how people actually behave. Beyond the numbers, it created a repeatable framework for future marquee games, significantly elevated student excitement around Samford football, and earned top recognition from business school deans for innovation and measurable impact. This wasn’t just a successful event. It was proof of concept for how Samford could approach fan engagement moving forward.
